The global automotive landscape is evolving rapidly, driven by the demand for smarter aerodynamics, optimized thermal management, and energy-efficient design. To help prepare the next generation of engineers for these complex challenges, Polar Dynamix recently collaborated with the Department of Automotive Engineering at the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI).
Bringing Fluid Dynamics to Life
Led by our Chief Architect, Dr. Wichai Pattanapol, a recent technical session introduced TNI faculty to AirSketcher—our proprietary 2D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software.
Traditional 3D CFD tools often require significant computational power and present steep learning curves, which can bottleneck early-stage design exploration. AirSketcher addresses this by providing an interactive environment where students can rapidly sketch, test, and visualize fluid behavior in real time. Rather than getting bogged down in heavy computational setups, students can intuitively conceptualize real-world automotive challenges, including:
- Aerodynamic Profiling: Understanding external airflow behavior, wake patterns, and drag minimization.
- Ventilation & Climate Control: Visualizing HVAC airflow within a vehicle’s interior to optimize passenger comfort while minimizing energy draw.
- Thermal Management: Simulating heat dissipation and cooling airflow around critical components like EV battery packs or traditional engine bays.
Equipping the Next Generation
To ensure this collaboration translates into long-term academic value, Polar Dynamix has provided official software licenses to TNI’s Department of Automotive Engineering. This equips students with a data-driven simulation toolkit to bring their independent research, design challenges, and senior capstone projects to life.
“It is our privilege to equip these future engineers with the tools they need to validate their concepts and drive engineering excellence,” said Dr. Pattanapol. “We look forward to a continued partnership with the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology as they nurture the next generation of automotive innovators.”
From the Classroom to the Production Line
As Thailand continues to solidify its position as a global hub for automotive manufacturing, giving students the ability to iterate on aerodynamic and thermodynamic principles early in their academic journey provides a distinct competitive advantage. By lowering the barrier to entry for complex simulations, future engineers can focus their energy exactly where the industry needs it: on creative problem-solving and sustainable design optimization.
